Judge Rich has been invited back to speak to 8th grade students at Crews Middle School and to conduct live court proceedings from the school. Judge Rich has scheduled cases involving inmates who violated their probation by using drugs.

Judge Rich was asked to attend a student presentation from students at Georgia Tech University and Georgia State University College of Law regarding the ethics involved in maintaining DNA databases.

Dacula High School welcomed Judge Rich back to conduct live court proceedings from the computer lab. Using video conferencing equipment already in use by the Gwinnett County Public School System, Judge Rich was able to adjudicate two cases involving inmates at the Gwinnett County jail. From the classroom, Judge Rich heard two cases involving inmates who admitted to violating their probation by using drugs.

Judge Rich was scheduled to present an overview of the Gwinnett Business Court to a meeting of all State Court Judges in Georgia. Because a trial was still in progress, Judge Rich arranged for the presentation to be made using Skype video conferencing technology from the Gwinnett County Courthouse to the meeting location in Tifton, Georgia. Due to the exigencies of the case on trial, the presentation was later made by another Gwinnett Judge familiar with the Business Court.

Crews Middle School welcomed Judge Rich who conducted live video court from the library media room for 8th grade health students who were studying the effects of drug and alcohol abuse. Students heard about real life consequences from deputy sheriffs, Judge Rich, prosecutors as they heard cases involving inmates who admitted to violating their probation by using drugs and abusing alcohol.

Using video conferencing equipment, Judge Rich conducted live court proceedings from Hull Middle School. Judge Rich was accompanied by Chaplain Terry Buice of the Gwinnett County Correctional Institute. With the conferencing equipment, a connection was established with the Gwinnett Detention Center. Prosecutors and court personnel were in the courtroom, and deputy sheriffs were with the inmates at the jail. From the classroom, Judge Rich heard two cases involving inmates who admitted to violating their probation by using drugs.

Judge Rich speaks to law students at Georgia State University College of Law Corporations class on the Gwinnett County Business Court established by Judge Rich. Judge Rich spoke on his lunch hour from Courtroom 3-H using Skype video conferencing equipment.

As part of Law Week 2009, Judge Rich conducts the first live classroom court session for juniors and seniors at Dacula High School. Using video conferencing equipment, Judge Rich was able to dial into the courtroom from the classroom in Dacula, and into the Gwinnett Detention Center. Prosecutors and court personnel were in the courtroom, and deputy sheriffs were with the inmates at the jail. From the classroom, Judge Rich heard three cases involving inmates who admitted to violating their probation.

Judge Rich is on hand for the opening weekend at the new Gwinnett Stadium to see the Gwinnett Braves.

Judge Rich is summoned for jury duty for Gwinnett Superior Court before Judge Michael Clark. After a morning of questioning potential jurors, Judge Rich was not selected, and was released by the Court.

After serving in the newly created Gwinnett Business Court for a year and a half, Judge Rich turned over the business court cases to Judge Pamela South who will serve a six month term through June 31, 2009.
